Films are an escape. However, documentaries are an exciting way to engage viewers on more serious issues than Batman!
Waging Peace: Muslim and Christian Alternatives living side by side and helping each other on issues of social justice, etc. Many Muslims from different backgrounds and Christians gathered at the Mennonite Church on a cold Saturday night to view this film and make comments. It’s believed to give Canadians an insider viewpoint on the challenges and commonalities Muslims and Christians share living in North America.
Rev Susan Harrison hosted the event and invited speaker Dr. Husain Khimjee, who recently published a book- Attributes of God in Islam, Judaism and Christianity- to comment on the Arabaeen commemoration in the Shia community as well as offer his insight into helping Canadians view this film for a wider conversation. Many ideas were offered including inviting a larger presence at the Markham Theatre.
Also the issue of the 14th Ave Mosque being petitioned against having a building permit was raised and many Christian pastors were invited to make a joint statement of support for this new place of worship, without attaching any opinion to the logistics of it.
The caution against Islamophobia during any issue arising in the community was duly mentioned and audiences had a lively interaction as they saw familiar faces in the movie of those who reside in Canada.
It was amazing to hear beautiful, articulate and accurate narrative about Islam from Christian Scholars and to hear Muslims eloquently present the position Islam holds as per Jesus and Christians.

Having read the Koran some time ago I recall that Muslims are taught through its message to deal harshly with the 'infidel' hence the killingand persecution of Christians. If this is true then ALL muslims are bound by this and no doubt this is the reasoning adopted by Islamic Governments.
