Moderated by Timaaj Hassen and Shadiya Aidid this community dialogue will focus on the often ignored subject of Blackness and Islam: The Black Muslim Experience, anti-Black racism in different communities, and the systematic erasure of the Black Muslims’ contributions to Islamic and secular societies.
This event aims to challenge dominant ideas of Muslimness, challenge racism from within different Muslim communities, and provide a safe space for Black Muslims to share our experiences.
We will centralize the voices and experiences of Black Muslims, although we also hope to engage those who do not identify as Black or Muslim.
Key words we hope to unpack and address are: Intersectionality, Blackness, Anti-Blackness, Hegemony, Marginalization, Solidarity, Self-Care & Love, and History.
Event venue located in OISE room 5240. Refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
