Event Description

MuslimFest’s 150 Muslim Contributions to Canada: A Mixed-Media Exhibit is an initiative that attempts to display 150 contributions made by Canadian Muslims to the culture, heritage and community of Ontario, and Canada. This mixed-media exhibit invites community members and artists alike, to submit visual art work, poetry, photography, short film and short story pieces highlighting these historical moments, which will premier in a dynamic set-up at MuslimFest 2017, August 5th and 6th, at the Mississauga Celebration Square.

In addition to the art submissions, we will be launching applications for commissioned short films based on stories we wish to curate, as well as a community-based nomination process to get your input on the most contributing community organizations. We’ll update this page as soon as we’re ready to launch!

We’re creating this exhibit is so we can showcase the heritage and growth the Muslim community has brought to Canada in the last 150 years, and hopefully inspire the community to continue to actively contribute to Canada’s growth in the future. This exhibit will also act as a medium to build positive dialogue about the Muslim community amongst our neighbours.

Exhibit Application Process:
First, complete the application form (linked at the top and bottom of this page)! You will need to provide a summary regarding your depiction of the contribution you are highlighting, as well as provide context as to when and where this contribution occurred. Applicants that can show the authenticity of the contribution will receive higher scores for their submission. A selection committee composed of community members from different professional and cultural backgrounds will be scoring the submissions. *This requires that you research and choose a contribution to highlight, create your artwork based on it, and then apply for this exhibit.*

Once applications are received, candidates will be e-mailed a link to their own unique submission folder. Images, documents, artist contracts (which will be sent to successful candidates only) and videos will be uploaded through there. Upon receiving the e-mail with the link, each candidate will have up to one week to submit their content for review, otherwise their application will be cancelled.
Candidates will be contacted on an on-going basis and will be informed via e-mail as to whether or not their submission was accepted or declined.
