Hadith of the Day

Narrated (Abu Huraira): Allah’s Messenger said, “Do not feel envy against one another, do not outbid one another (with a view to raising the price), do not bear aversion against one another, do not bear enmity against one another, one of you should not enter into a transaction when the other has already entered into it; and be fellow brothers and slaves of Allah. A Muslim is a Muslim’s brother. He does not wrong, desert, or despise him. Piety is found here – (pointing three times to his chest) – despising his Muslim brother is enough evil for any man to do. Every Muslim’s blood, property and honour are unlawful to be violated by another Muslim.” (Muslim reported it)

Zabiha
2006- Let's Do It Again!
Why do it in Canada?
“When so many Muslims overseas
are in greater need, why should we distribute meat in Canada?”
Islam is a universal and a compassionate faith
and knows no border or distinction between different people.
A hungry person in Canada is just as deserving as a hungry
Muslim overseas. Besides, Canada is our home and our neighbors
deserve our help.
There is no shortage of poverty in Canada.
United Nations report classifies one in five Canadian children
as poor. These are the children of single mothers, immigrants
and working poor, squeezed by high rents and low paying jobs.
Many immigrant Muslim families are living in abject poverty.
There are homeless Muslims in Canada.
The following statistics are from
Hunger Count Survey of 2004:
- In Ontario 322,911 people used Food Banks.
This number is a 5% increase from 2003. Children account
for 40% of Food Bank clients.
- Employment income is not sufficient to
escape hunger. 33% of Food Bank clients were employed poor.
- People use Food Banks for many reasons:
- My EI, welfare, child support
…. is late or I am cut off
- I'm waiting almost two weeks
for a welfare intake appointment
- I have nothing until my
EI benefits start in about six weeks
- I work full time and still
don't make enough to make ends meet
- My husband took all the
money and left me with the kids
- There is nothing left after
I pay the rent
- I just got out of jail
- I just started a new job
and won't get paid for two weeks
Muslim compassion and helping hand
to fellow Canadians is indeed a service based Dawa. It shows
our faith as caring, merciful and compassionate. It defies
the adverse propaganda which depicts us as militant and violent.
