Narrated Sahl bin Sa’d: A man came to the Prophet and said, “O Allah’s Messenger, direct me to a deed which if I do, I shall be loved by Allah and by people.” He replied, “If you practise abstinence in the world Allah will love you, and if you abstain from people’s possessions they will love you.” (Ibn Majah and others reported it, and said, it has a good chain of narrators)
